Rainier Valley Birth & Health Center

Rainier Valley Birth & Health Center (RVBHC) is a powerful model of community-rooted care, born from the vision, grit, and determination of women in Seattle’s Rainier Valley. As the only women of color-led midwifery center in the area, they provide culturally and linguistically relevant care to predominantly BIPOC and low-income families.

Operating with a small yet mighty team, RVBHC offers a full range of services including prenatal care, birth support, lactation consultation, family planning, and urgent gynecological care. In just a few years, the organization has gone from delivering 75 babies in 2019 to well over 100 annually, while also expanding services to non-pregnant clients in need of reproductive health support.

In 2023, after a successful capital campaign, Rainier Valley Midwives opened a new facility offering dedicated birth and recovery rooms, walk-in urgent care, and the first ultrasound services in the neighborhood. This milestone follows years of resilience through gentrification-driven relocations, underscoring the organization’s deep roots and unwavering commitment to the community.
